The Brooklyn Nets shocked the NBA world on Thursday when they announced the signing of hall of fame point guard Steve Nash as their next head coach.
Nash, two-time MVP as the engineer of the high-scoring Phoenix Suns teams under Mike D’Antoni, had been a player development consultant with Golden State, where he worked with Durant.
“Coaching is something I knew I wanted to pursue when the time was right, and I am humbled to be able to work with the outstanding group of players and staff we have here in Brooklyn,” Nash said in a statement.
Not everyone was pleased about the signing, though. Retired NBA big man Trevor Booker could not hide his disappointment with his former team as he called them out for overlooking a number of “well qualified” Black coaches in favor of Nash:

Per Adrian Wojnarowski, the team would have tabbed Jacque Vaughn for the job if Nash had not accepted.
Without Kevin Durant Kyrie Irving, and other players for sometime, he managed to go 7-3, beating the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Toronto Raptors—the top two seeds in both conferences—along the way.
