A massive trade proposal has the Atlanta Hawks landing another young guard as part of a return for franchise star Trae Young.
The soon-to-be 25-year-old Young has been frequently mentioned in trade rumors, even though he only signed a lucrative five-year extension worth $215 million two years ago. If Atlanta were to shop him, there certainly wouldn’t be a shortage of teams interested in the young All-Star.
Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley proposed four blockbuster trade ideas that would shake up the NBA in 2023-24. One of Buckley’s trade suggestions? Young and Garrison Matthews going to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for Lonzo Ball, Coby White, Patrick Williams, Dalen Terry, 2027 and 2028 first-round picks plus a 2029 first-round pick swap:
“If Young ever hit the trade market, the Bulls should be all over him. They’ve never been the same since losing Ball to a knee injury in January 2022, and it’s entirely possible that newcomer Jevon Carter won’t be able to cure what ails them at the lead guard spot.
But bring Young to the Windy City, and the Bulls might bury the opposition under a pile of points. How many offensive quartets could even hope to match the combined potency of Young, Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vučević? There may not be much defensive prowess between the four, but offense-first clubs can rule the modern NBA…
The Hawks, meanwhile, might envision their highest two-way ceiling coming by way of a deal that moves out Young and his defensive deficiencies while making Dejounte Murray, a dynamic defender with near-star numbers on offense, the franchise centerpiece. If they’re big believers in Williams’ potential, they might see him as the star two-way wing this roster has so long been without…
Williams still retains a towering ceiling on both ends, White packs the offensive punch of a star sixth man, Ball is an incredible connector if he ever gets healthy and the Hawks would have four wild cards in Terry, a 2022 first-rounder, the two future firsts and the pick swap.”
The Bulls decided to end a rebuild two years ago when they signed veteran All-Star DeMar DeRozan in a three-year deal worth $85 million. DeRozan and Zach LaVine helped the Bulls to a playoff appearance in 2022 and to a play-in tournament appearance last season, though they were ousted by the Miami Heat in the game that decided the No. 8 seed.

Chicago is good enough to contend for a playoff berth, but they won’t realistically contend in the East until/unless they land another star of Young’s caliber. And if Atlanta decides to shake up their roster, a team like the Bulls could be the perfect trade partner.
