The Atlanta Hawks are allegedly “next” to win an NBA championship. Not because many people and experts believe in them, but because Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young boldly claimed that in the immediate aftermath of the Denver Nuggets capturing their first championship in team history.
While the Denver Nuggets lifted the first NBA title in franchise history on Monday night, Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young made a bold claim on social media.
The two-time All-Star believes the Hawks are next to lift the trophy.
“We next!” he tweeted defiantly, with ring and trophy emojis.
It is safe to say not everyone agrees that the Hawks, who went 41-41 last year and were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Boston Celtics.

While the Hawks have been a playoff team more often than not in the past 15 years, the franchise has not really been looked at as a serious contender come playoff time. The only title in team history came in 1958 when the franchise was based in St Louis and the Hawks have never made the NBA finals in their 55 years in Atlanta.
Young averaged 26 points and 10 assists per game, and although the team has nice pieces, it still doesn’t look anything like a championship roster.
The Hawks opened up 16th in the betting on Wednesday ahead of the new season as a +6000 outsider to lift the NBA Championship in June 2024, with the Nuggets favorites to retain their title.
It’s nice to have confidence, but sometimes it can be confused with delusion.
