Team USA’s recent gold win at the Paris Olympics, clinching their fifth consecutive gold medal and 17th overall, resulted from an impressive roster that included superstars like LeBron James and Kevin Durant. However, as the next Summer Olympics approaches in Los Angeles in 2028, the team’s composition might change significantly.
James, Durant, and Stephen Curry, who were crucial to Team USA’s unbeaten streak in Paris, may not be available for the 2028 Games. This uncertainty has raised concerns about Team USA’s future, as highlighted by former NBA star Tracy McGrady in a recent Instagram video.
McGrady praised rising talents like Anthony Edwards and Jayson Tatum but questioned whether they could carry the team to gold alone.
“USA is in trouble next Olympics. I’m afraid that gold might be going somewhere else. I love Anthony Edwards’s game. Who knows what Jayson Tatum is gonna do? So what are Americans coming up?” he asked.
“Paolo Banchero might be a guy that we could throw in there ’cause he’s a young, up-and-coming player. Cooper Flagg may be a guy; he’ll probably be in his third, entering his fourth year. I’m looking for guys that are on Steph Curry and Durant and LeBron’s level. And I don’t see that coming up,” he added.
Tracy McGrady Predicts Strong Competition from Canada and France in Future Olympics
In the recent Paris Olympics, Team USA’s dominance was challenged by stellar performances from other international teams, particularly France and Canada. On his Instagram video, Tracy McGrady suggested that Canada and France could pose major challenges to Team USA in the 2028 Games.

“France has a great chance because they have Wembanyama over there; they produce great talent over there,” McGrady said.
“I think Canada has a great chance. I think France has a great chance. You just don’t know what some of these other countries and what they’re producing,” he added.
France, led by the young star Victor Wembanyama, secured a silver medal after a competitive final against Team USA, losing 98-87. Despite not winning a medal, Canada’s young team also made waves with strong performances throughout the tournament.
