The 2024 ‘Avengers’ Team USA game sparked several opinions after their gold-winning outing at the Paris Olympics 2024. Recently, former NBA star Tracy McGrady picked his winner from one of Olympic basketball history’s most debated hypothetical matchups, the 1992 Dream Team versus the 2024 Olympic winning team.
The two-time NBA scoring champion picked the Dream Team over the Avengers in a close matchup. He cited the size and the presence of aggressive players like Charles Barkley and David Robinson as reasons for their dominance.
In the video on his Instagram, McGrady said, “I would go with Dream Team because of their size. You got David Robinson in his prime. You got Charles Barkley, who is a bruiser down low. I think that’s where they would struggle at, at the end of the day, when the game needs to slow down, and you gotta throw the ball inside.”

McGrady also pointed out the Dream Team’s dominance inside the paint, especially with “the greatest player ever,” Michael Jordan. He said, “And I think, you know, the Dream Team’s inside presence is just unmatched with what they had at the time.
“And then on the perimeter, when you talk about perimeter guys, I mean, they had the greatest player that ever played the game in Michael Jordan. 7 games, I’m going with the Dream Team. Game 7 to win by 3 points.”
Both teams remained unbeaten throughout the competition. While the 1992 Dream Team was the first USA Olympic basketball team to feature active NBA players, the 2024 Avengers Team USA won the basketball gold at the Olympics for the fifth straight time.
