The Toronto Raptors could very well be entering a new era after Fred VanVleet signed with the Houston Rockets this offseason. VanVleet agreed to a three-year, $130 million deal with the Rockets on Friday. Now, it appears that another star may be on his way out.
With Nick Nurse and Fred VanVleet already out the door, trade talks surrounding All-Star Pascal Siakam are reportedly picking up steam, according to Michael Grange if sportsnet.com.
“There is persistent speculation that Pascal Siakam — the team’s leading scorer, second-most prolific playmaker, and ultimate home-grown success story — could be traded before the regular season starts and perhaps much sooner as the NBA’s transaction market simmers.”
Grange noted the Atlanta Hawks are one team that’s been connected to Siakam “for weeks.”
“Several other teams are believed to have checked in also,” Grange wrote about interest in the two-time All-Star.
The 29-year-old has one-year left on his contract. He is owed $37.9 million in 2023-24.
The Raptors hired Darko Rajaković to replace Nick Nurse as head coach. The 44-year-old spent the past three seasons as an assistant for the Memphis Grizzlies.
