Former Memphis Grizzlies two-way player Tony Allen, who played his final NBA season with the New Orleans Pelicans in 2017-18, recently bashed the franchise and its then-coach. Allen, who played just 22 games with the franchise, called the Pelicans “the worst organization” and Alvin Gentry “the worst coach” on the Chris Vernon Show.
Allen played seven seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies from 2010 to 2017 and helped the franchise reach the 2013 NBA Western Conference Finals. He earned all his six All-Defensive selections during his time at the Grizzlies.
While speaking on Grind City Media in Memphis, Tony Allen said, “Yeah, he was one of the worst coaches in the world. He was old, man. [He used to] forget speeches like, ‘Fellas, now when we … What they doing wrong?’ He be like, ‘Fellas, we all got a rebound and uh … What else they did? Oh yeah, get back in transition.”
In his hilarious segment, Allen revealed they used to practice at the NFL team New Orleans Saints football field. He added, “Sometimes, we had practice on the football field. We shooting baskets in the goal [post]… Whatever the Saints didn’t eat, we got the leftovers. Shoutout to the Pelicans. That’s the worst organization.”
Memphis Grizzlies To Retire Tony Allen’s No. This Season
Despite having a career scoring average of just above eight, Allen will have his jersey number retired by the Memphis Grizzlies this season after two years of announcement. The franchise will retire Allen’s No. 9 jersey on March 15 during the game against the Miami Heat.

The 42-year-old’s rant against the Pelicans and Gentry left the crew in stitches. While Memphis showed their love for Allen, it’s uncertain whether the Pelicans feel the same way.
