The Minnesota Timberwolves suffered a blow when their HC, Chris Finch, picked up an injury in their fourth meeting with the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. The Minnesota franchise won the series with a 122-116 win, but at what cost?
With 1:40 minutes remaining on the clock, the Suns’ Devin Booker pushed Wolves guard Mike Conley to the sidelines, who was already running down at a pace. On seeing his player rushing towards him, Finch tried moving away, but that didn’t help. Conley ended up colliding with the HC and the latter landed on the floor holding his right knee.
Booker received a foul for his actions, but the damage was already done. Finch was visibly in pain when he was helped off the court. After supervision, the team announced that the patellar tendon in his right knee was torn. Later, he was taken to the medical room for further examination.
Following the win, the Timberwolves assistant coach Micah Nori confirmed that Finch was in “good spirits” and that the squad visited him after a glorious 4-0 series win. Despite his tough night, there was some form of comfort for the 54-year-old.
Chris Finch Finishes Third in Coach of the Year Award
After an impressive regular season, Chris Finch finished in the third spot for the Coach of the Year Award. Only one vote was in his favor for the top spot, while he received 23 votes for the second and 31 votes for the third position. This season under Finch, the franchise closed with a 56-26 record in the regular campaign that has been, so far, their best in the last two decades.

The Timberwolves have shown great dominance this season, all thanks to Finch’s confidence in the team. They carried their brilliant regular campaign performance to the playoff tournament as well, winning the first-round series with a sweeping victory over the Suns. Now they’ll eagerly wait for their upcoming opponents in the next round, which could potentially be the Denver Nuggets, who knocked them out of the playoffs last season.
