The Boston Celtics are riding high after clinching their record-breaking 18th NBA title last season, their first championship in over a decade. It was a dream come true for Celtics fans, and the excitement surrounding the team has grown as they prepare for another run at the title.
Led by the powerful duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, the Celtics are expected to make another deep playoff push this season. Their strong preseason performance, finishing with a 4-1 record, fueled the optimism. Tatum and Brown continue to be one of the most dynamic pairings in the NBA, and with their sights set on back-to-back championships, the pressure is on to deliver.
Fans’ excitement is reflected in the ticket prices for the Celtics’ upcoming games. The home opener against the New York Knicks at TD Garden is set for Tuesday. The cost to attend proves just how much fans are backing their team. The get-in price for the game is $323.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans are set to open their season against the Chicago Bulls on Thursday. Nevertheless, the ticket prices tell a very different story. Fans can get into the Pelicans’ home opener for as little as $4. This stark difference in ticket prices highlights the Celtics’ strong following and the hype surrounding their championship defense.
Boston Celtics Release Lonnie Walker IV Ahead of Season Opener
Just before their season opener, the Boston Celtics released forward Lonnie Walker IV. The decision was reportedly made due to luxury tax concerns. NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg explained the financial reasoning behind the decision.
“Carrying Walker on a $2 million minimum salary contract still could have cost the team over $10 million if the team didn’t otherwise trim salary before season’s end,” Forsberg reported.

Walker IV signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the team in late August. He appeared in just one preseason game for the Celtics, against the Toronto Raptors. He scored 20 points during that game, shooting 8-of-15 from the field.
