After an impressive 15-season career, the three-time NBA champion, Danny Green has announced his retirement, marking the end of a significant chapter for someone recognized for his shooting skills and leadership. He announced his decision during an episode of his podcast, reflecting on his journey and expressing happiness about stepping away from the game.
Danny Green leaves behind a strong legacy, having won NBA championships with three different teams: the San Antonio Spurs in 2014, the Toronto Raptors in 2019, and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020. “I’m officially moving on from the game of basketball, the NBA. It’s been a great run,” he stated. “To me, I’m very proud to be able to walk away from the game. I’m at peace with it.”
Throughout his career, Green impressed everyone with his shooting, finishing with a 40% success rate from beyond the arc. He played for six teams: the Cleveland Cavaliers (2009-10, 2023), San Antonio Spurs (2010-18), Toronto Raptors (2018-19), Los Angeles Lakers (2019-20), Philadelphia 76ers (2020-22, 2023), and Memphis Grizzlies (2022-23).
Over his time in the league, he averaged 8.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 832 games, with 709 of those being starts. In the playoffs, he appeared in 169 games (159 starts), ranking ninth in NBA history with 315 playoff three-pointers.
His contributions went beyond scoring. Green was a key leader in the locker room and was named to the All-Defensive Team during the 2016-17 season. “People ask me, ‘How did you learn how to become a winner? How do you become a leader?‘” he shared. “And it’s the people before me, the people that have taught me, my coaches. They prepared me to be successful because ultimately I’m just a normal kid.”
