Talk of nepotism regarding Bronny James, the son of LeBron James, and his NBA career has gained traction. Many commentators have criticized James’ group for it. However, Ryan Clark, a former NFL player analyst, is fine with Bronny’s career being predetermined.
He provided several instances of nepotism in the NBA, including players like Doc Rivers’ son, Austin Rivers, and Scottie Pippen Jr.’s son, Scottie Pippen, and how their outings destroyed narratives. According to Clark on “The Pivot Podcast,” Bronny must prove himself when the time comes to utilize the chance afforded by his famous father fully.
Clark said at 18:49 timestamp, “He’s [Bronny’s] 100% elevated by being LeBron James’ son. It doesn’t mean he won’t end up being a good basketball player. But this is the way life works. To me, it’s time for LeBron James and Bronny James to just put up or shut up. Right?“
He added, “Bronny James, you go play ball, earn yourself a roster spot, and I don’t think anything’s wrong with getting a leg up because of what your last name is.” In addition, Clark compared the circumstances surrounding Bronny James to those of Bill Belichick’s sons’ NFL prospects and LA Rams coach Sean McVay’s ties to his father and grandparents.
On the day of the NCAA deadline, Bronny chose to forfeit his collegiate eligibility and stay in the NBA Draft. With the overall picks of No. 17 and No. 55, the Lakers are confident they will draft him when he arrives in Los Angeles. Mock drafts project that he will be selected in the middle to late stages of the second round. So, if he doesn’t fall to number 55, the Lakers may decide to move up.
