One of the most heartbreaking moments on Thursday was watching Bol Bol hear name after name called in the first round to the point where he saw himself fall into waiting for the second round.
Even then, he still heard name after name called until the Miami Heat selected him with the 44th pick in the NBA Draft. He would soon get his draft rights traded to the Denver Nuggets.
The former Oregon standout’s bank account took a massive hit as well. According to business insider Darren Rovell, Bol was in line for $3.9 million before his fall cost him millions.
“At a projected pick of No. 20, Bol Bol would have received a $3.9 million guarantee. A team that picks him in the second round can choose to guarantee him something, but they don’t have to,” Rovell reported after the draft.
It seems teams had a significant concern regarding the health of Bol, which is why he fell so fast and so low during the draft.
“Bol Bol’s medicals are not good, I’m told. The feedback on him wasn’t great either,” Chris Fedor reported.
