The Dallas Mavericks may be trailing in the NBA Finals series by 2-0, but their head coach, Jason Kidd, has stirred up controversy by calling Boston Celtics’ star Jaylen Brown the best player on the team. This declaration has fueled the competitive fire as Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown strive for their first title together. However, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has a word of caution for the Celtics’ dynamic duo.
Shaquille O’Neal warned that focusing on individual accolades could derail their championship aspirations.
“In my Lakers’ runs, I wasn’t the best player on the team… I knew my role… If [Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown] are worried about useless titles… not only will it affect this game, but they will lose the series,” Shaq said.
In response to Kidd’s controversial statement, Tatum and Brown have emphasized their commitment to the team and shared mission. Tatum has already cautioned against any attempts to create division between them. Their solidarity was evident in Game 2 as well, where their combined efforts led the Celtics to a 105- 98 victory over the Mavericks.
JB recorded 21 points, four rebounds, and seven assists. Meanwhile, Tatum made significant contributions on the defensive end and as a playmaker. He scored 18 points and added nine rebounds and 12 assists.

Though many saw it as a psychological tactic, Kidd dismissed this notion.
“In my opinion, to think that I was playing mental warfare, I don’t think anybody understands what mental warfare is played if I’m playing it,” Kidd said.
Despite the uproar, the Boston Celtics did not display their usual early-game surge in Game 2 of the NBA Finals. The Dallas Mavericks also significantly improved from their blowout loss in Game 1 but lost another game.
