In a recent episode of the Pat McAfee podcast, former NBA player Jamal Crawford discussed the popularity of the show, ‘Inside the NBA’. Crawford acknowledged the show’s significance and its impact on the basketball world. McAfee pointed out that the show seems deeply rooted in the culture and sets the tone for the entire sport.
“There’s some people out here [that] say, ‘I don’t even watch the game. I tune in for pregame, postgame, and after the game to see what they’re going to say,’ so they’ve always had the pulse. And for them, if this whole thing shakes out – I don’t know much about it right now; it’s a lot of conversation – but they transcend sport“, Jamal said.
Jamal Crawford stated that the show has been the leading basketball program
Crawford stated that the show had been the leading basketball program for over two decades. McAfee claimed that the show was harming TNT and suggested that TNT might continue the show without basketball rights.
They’re almost like The Golden Girls, like they got their own sitcom, they’re bigger than just the sport… We have to have them.” Jamal added.
It was reported that Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, and the Big Daddy Shaquille O’Neal have contract clauses allowing them to leave if TNT loses its NBA rights.
Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley are the leading personalities on the show. Recently, TNT also added Draymond Green, a Golden State Warriors player, to the coverage of the conference finals. Barkley recently expressed concern for the future of the show “Inside the NBA,” mentioning that he is “100 percent” worried about its future. The NBA’s media rights agreement is set to expire soon, and TNT may no longer be the league’s broadcast partner. TNT Sports is competing with NBC for the NBA’s remaining television rights.
