With the 2024 NBA Draft just around the corner, the teams are in the final stages of their decision-making processes regarding their picks. After Victor Wembanyama’s first selection last year, another Frenchman is seemingly headlining this year’s event, Perth Wildcats C, Alex Sarr. But what does it mean to be the first pick in the draft? Alex Sarr has the answer to that.
During a recent interview with SiriusXM NBA Radio, Sarr discussed the significance of being the first pick. “I think being the number one pick is being the first in your class, and I’m a competitor, and of course, that’s what I want,” said Sarr. He also explained his playing style and expressed his desire to play more like a traditional center rather than a forward.
Sarr has been on the radar of multiple franchises this season after his performance with his Australian National Basketball League team. His experience in Europe with Real Madrid and with Atlanta’s Team Overtime and YNG Dreamerz makes adaptability no issue for Sarr. He can get back to his familiar Atlanta scene once again with the Hawks holding the first pick and his NBA Draft combine performance could be enough to convince the franchise not to change their mind later on.
How Did Alex Sarr Perform in NBA Draft Combine?
The most standout thing about Sarr is his physical presence. At the draft combine, he was measured at 224.2 pounds and 6’11.75″ without shoes. His wingspan of 7’4.25″ and a standing reach of 9’2″ also gives a clear idea of his potential ability on the defensive end of the court.
His vertical reach of a maximum of 37″ raises some doubts about his jumping reach, as a 6’1″ Bronny James leapt 3 inches higher in the exact measurement. During the combine, he was also seen taking part in a catch-shoot drill and proved to be a decent shooter.

He also cleared the lane agility test in 11.43 seconds and the shuttle run in 3.23 seconds. His limber movement was impressive for a man of his size, and he can be a valuable asset around the rim. He averaged 9.4 points per game from 52% shooting, 4.3 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 0.9 assists this season for the Wildcats and his draft combine performance did no harm to his no.1 projection.
