The United States hasn’t won a medal in the last two FIBA World Cups. But they’re vying to reclaim their former glory. With 16 gold medals at the Olympics and a gold streak since 2004, Team USA is once again poised to dominate.
Team USA is favored in every matchup and has already shown their depth by defeating Team Canada 86-72 in an exhibition game last week. However, they can’t afford to underestimate any opponent. Team Canada boasts the second-best collection of NBA talent after America and has the potential to meet the U.S. in the gold medal match.
Canada’s basketball team has only won a single silver medal since 1936. Their last Olympic appearance was in Sydney 2000, where they finished 7th. This is their chance to prove their worth on the international stage by going for gold.
According to BetMGM Sportsbook, the USA is the favorite to win the most Olympic gold medals, with odds of -500 and an over/under of 39.5. China is the second favorite (+300, 33.5 over/under), followed by France (+8000, 26.5).
DraftKings Sportsbook also heavily favors Team USA to win gold in Paris with odds of -500, while Team Canada follows at +1100.
