After Game 2 of the NBA Finals, four Boston Celtics stars and one Dallas Mavericks star are in contention for the 2024 Finals MVP. Celtics’ Jrue Holiday is leading the charge, which surprised many.
Holiday delivered a stellar performance by finishing Game 2 with 26 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, one steal, one block, and an impressive 78% field goal percentage. But his performance was not noteworthy in Game 1 and he was not expected to top the MVP list compared to other strong contenders.
Following closely behind is Luka Doncic of the Mavericks, who has been the main contributor for the Mavs throughout Games 1 and 2. Doncic managed to secure his 10th career playoff triple-double in Game 2, finishing with 32 points, 11 assists, and 11 rebounds. Despite the team’s struggles, his remarkable performance has placed him firmly in the second position on the MVP ladder.
The Celtics’ dynamic duo of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum occupies the third and fourth spots, respectively. Brown contributed significantly to the team’s Game 2 victory with 21 points, four rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. Meanwhile, Tatum modeled his defensive prowess by recording 18 points, nine rebounds, 12 assists, and two steals.
A surprising yet notable entry on the list is Celtics’ Kristaps Porzingis, who has been sidelined due to injury since April. In his first appearance since the injury, Porzingis made a significant impact, helping the Celtics win Game 1. In Game 2, he contributed 12 points, four rebounds, and one assist amid injury concerns.
