There are numerous decisions that the LA Lakers need to take this week with the NBA Draft approaching, followed by free agency and the trade market. In a time like this, their aces, LeBron James and Anthony Davis, reportedly suggested that they should splurge on everything to acquire an elite player.
Sam Amick of The Athletic states, “If the franchise cornerstones had their way, league sources say, the Lakers would prove their desire to win this week by going all-in for another elite player.” Being the key members, they expressed that another high talent would significantly impact the roster. The player’s name hasn’t been disclosed. But it could be a point guard as Lakers’ D’Angelo Russell would potentially enter the free agency market.
LeBron himself has decisions to make about his future at the Lakers. The 39-year-old could either accept the massive franchise offer and stay back or enter free agency. The signing of an “elite player” might influence the 20-time All-Star’s decision.
The franchise is focused on rebuilding the team and trying to find the right pieces. So, listening to LeBron and Davis might work in their favor. The team has heavily relied on the two veterans, and it will continue to do so under JJ Redick.
JJ Redick Focused on Anthony Davis and LeBron James
On Monday, when the Lakers formally introduced JJ Redick, the young coach revealed some strategies he wants to implement in the team.
According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, “JJ mentioned multiple times that he wants LeBron to take more threes. Rui (Hachimura) to take more threes, as a team just to take more threes.”

Talking about the role Anthony Davis would play, the Insider said, “JJ has a plan… using Anthony Davis as a hub and using him more in the way that the Nuggets use Nikola Jokic or the Kings use Domantas Sabonis, using him at the elbows above the three-point arc running the offense through him.” [After 6:00 min]
Redick could be inexperienced, but he certainly knows the task he has been given. Using LeBron and Davis wisely will automatically help the team operate well. The 39-year-old HC has been inked with the franchise for the next four years. They expected him to lead them to a championship title during this time.
