It appears that Chris Paul may not be released after all, but that does not mean he will be playing for the Phoenix Suns next season.
The Phoenix Suns are reportedly one of the finalists to trade for Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards. But there are some holdups for Beal to be dealt with for the Suns and it involves their aging point guard.
Because Beal has a full no-trade clause, he has the ability to block any deal. In the case of a deal to the Suns, it’s believed Beal would want some say in who would be left on the Phoenix roster if he decides to come to the team.
The Suns can offer the Wizards a package based around Deandre Ayton and Landry Shamet. However, a new report says Beal reportedly prefers the Suns keep Ayton and trade Chris Paul in a potential deal instead.
It was reported earlier this month that the Suns would release Paul since his $30.8 million salary for 2023-24 would become fully guaranteed if he is still on the Suns’ roster after June 28.
However, the veteran point guard has expressed his desire to remain in Phoenix.

As for Beal, he has a 15% trade bonus that would be waived upon him being traded. Beal’s no-trade clause would carry over to a new team if he’s traded from the Wizards.
