While most of us have a plan for Christmas Day, Kevin Durant will be shooting hoops against the Denver Nuggets. The Phoenix Suns forward has his plans set for the special day at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
As the game will start at 09:30 CST on Wednesday, Durant has all the time to remember his special Christmases from the past. During a recent conversation with Up & Adams, KD opened up about the best Christmas gift he has ever had. However, those who know that his personal life mostly revolves around family and Mama Durant is the closest to him. So, his fans might have had an idea where that gift was coming from.
When the interviewer stuck with the question, “What’s the best Christmas present you have ever got?”
“A Sega Genesis…it just opened me up to the gaming world, and I’ve been hooked ever since. Shoutout to my mom for being proactive,” Durant replied instantly.

He recalled the very day he received the gift. He felt bored at home and had nothing to do. His mother gave him the Genesis gaming console, which he remembers to this day. He credits his love for video games to his mother as well. Durant himself occasionally expresses how much he loves games.
Kevin Durant Once Dedicated His MVP Speech To Mom Wanda
Wanda Durant has been around the basketball court for many of the current NBA players. However, her significance in Kevin’s life runs far beyond supporting him on the court. If we go back in time for about a decade, it was May 6, 2014, when Kevin Durant gave one of the most iconic MVP acceptance speeches.

When Kevin took the stage, he was visibly nervous, dressed sharply in a slim-fit blue suit, and began with the usual round of thanks. But as he spoke, it was clear this moment was different. Rather than sticking to a script, Kevin let his emotions take over and spoke candidly about the struggles and sacrifices that shaped his life. The speech took a profound turn when he looked directly at his mother and said, “You the real MVP.”
“We wasn’t supposed to be here. You made us believe. You kept us off the street and put clothes on our backs, food on the table. When you didn’t eat, you made sure we ate. You went to sleep hungry. You sacrificed for us,” Durant said during the speech while tears ran down his cheeks.

Wanda sat in the front row, radiating pride as Kevin recounted their challenging journey together. Having had Kevin and his brother as a young single mother, she faced enormous challenges but never wavered in her commitment to provide for her boys.
Wanda, who had always been more of a behind-the-scenes supporter, suddenly found herself in the spotlight. People began to call her “Mama Durant,” and she was invited to share her story with various organizations and media outlets. Her life changed dramatically, transforming her from a devoted mother into an inspirational figure for many.
