No other sports league has so much movement quite like the NBA and this offseason is no different.
Following the trade for Bradley Beal, it may finally be time for the Phoenix Suns to trade Deandre Ayton.
The latest report says the Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks engaged in advanced discussions on trade of Deandre Ayton during the draft before talks stalled, sources tell Marc Stein of Substack.
The trade would have sent Ayton to Dallas for Tim Hardaway Jr., Richaun Holmes, and JaVale McGee, but the Suns objected to getting McGee in the deal. The Suns wouldn’t have acquired any future first-round picks, but they loved turning Ayton into two rotation players in Hardaway and Holmes.
Sources tell Stein that the talks could be resumed.
As of right now, the Suns reportedly are moving forward with Ayton on their roster. Ayton averaged 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game last year but managed through inconsistencies on defense.

Hardaway averaged 14.4 points per game and started 45 of 71 contests last year. Holmes fell out of favor in Sacramento under a new head coach in 2022-23. Last year, he appeared 8.3 minutes per game in 42 contests, averaging 3.1 points and 1.9 rebounds.
