It’s been stated numerous times about messed up it was that Kevin Durant would bolt in free agency, not because it wasn’t his right to do so, but because he would go to a team that eliminated his squad just a few weeks prior.
Durant and Russell Westbrook didn’t talk much after that decision. The talk surrounding what happened has quieted down over the past year or so, but it was brought back into the light by Stephen A. Smith on Wednesday.
Smith told a story from a trusted source that told him Durant actually had dinner with Russell Westbrook and his Thunder teammates to tell them to their face that he wasn’t leaving.
24 hours left, he announced that he was leaving to sign with the Warriors. He didn’t even bother to call Westbrook about it.
Durant was clearly watching the show and would soon contact Smith and deny any of that happening.
