This offseason has been a period of significant change for the Golden State Warriors and their star player, Stephen Curry. The team faced a major shakeup when Klay Thompson, Curry’s longtime backcourt partner, left to join the Dallas Mavericks.
In response, the Warriors moved quickly to bring in new talent, signing Buddy Hield and De’Anthony Melton in hopes of filling the void left by Thompson. But questions remain about whether they can truly replace the chemistry and production that Thompson provided.
Despite these efforts, some, like sports analyst Stephen A. Smith, remain unconvinced that the Warriors have done enough to support Curry. During a recent appearance on “First Take,” Smith didn’t hold back his frustrations with the Warriors’ management.
“Looking at the organization as a whole—specifically Steve Kerr—and I’m saying, ‘How come we can’t get this brother any additional help?’… We’re talking about a Steph Curry that still looks like he’s in his prime,” Smith said.
“Still the greatest shooter on the planet… You would think people would clamor to [play alongside Curry]. I don’t know if that has been the case,” he added.
Brian Windhorst Flags Possible Trade For Stephen Curry
In addition to losing Klay Thompson, the Warriors also saw Chris Paul move to the San Antonio Spurs and Dario Saric join the Denver Nuggets. Despite these changes, the Warriors recently secured Stephen Curry with a contract extension. They want to ensure that their star player remains with the team for the foreseeable future.

However, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst has raised concerns about what the future holds for Curry and the Warriors. During a recent discussion, Windhorst highlighted the potential for further changes.
“We get past the October deadline of an extension, and they don’t find a deal there; I think he [Stephen Curry] becomes a high probability of being traded during the season,” Windhorst said.
Curry’s maximum contract extension with the Warriors will keep him with the team until the end of the 2027 season. What lies ahead for the Warriors’ star remains to be seen.
