Gregg Popovich is clearly not a fan of the Lakers.
The San Antonio Spurs head coach was faced with a decision ti trade superstar Kawhi Leonard, and even though reports stated he wanted to go to the Lakers — Popovich held to his own rules of not trading players in his conference. Kawhi is now in Canada and flourishing with the Toronto Raptors.
Now that reports have surfaced of Anthony Davis wanting out of New Orleans with L.A. being on top of his list — guess who has something to say about it? Gregg Popovich. At least, according to Stephen A. Smith.
During ESPN’s “First Take,” panelist Stephen A. Smith reported that Pelicans General Manager Dell Demps who reached out to San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, who told the general manager this…
“I’ve been told that one of the people that Dell Demps has communicated with is Gregg Popovich. Not for trade talks or anything but a guy like Gregg Popovich has said, ‘Don’t cave to the Los Angeles Lakers.'”
In other words like we did it for Kawhi Leonard.
Don’t think for one second you have to be compelled to move Anthony Davis now. You can wait and that’s what he’s been telling Dell Demps.

If this sounds weird for Popovich to do, just think back to the comments he had about the Memphis Grizzlies handing the Lakers two titles by dealing Pau Gasol to them.
“What they did in Memphis is beyond comprehension,” said Popovich. “There should be a trade committee that can scratch all trades that make no sense. I just wish I had been on a trade committee that oversees NBA trades. I’d like to elect myself to that committee. I would have voted no to the L.A. trade.”
Demps has until February, 7th, but he could opt to wait until next season or the offseason to pull the trigger.
