The basketball world is sympathizing with former NBA head coach Stan Van Gundy following the unexpected passing of his wife Kimberly.
TMZl is reporting that Kimberly, who was 61, died last week. Her cause of death is unknown.
“Kimberly’s kindness and love for all around her was shown through her charitable works and activism,” her obituary reads. “In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando or Crossroad’s Corral in Kim’s memory.”
Kimberly also leaves behind their four children, Shannon, Michael, Alison, and Kelly, as well as her parents Jane Dennan and Ernest Abbot, four siblings, and 13 nieces and nephews.
“I lost my big sister Kimberly Abbott Van Gundy on Wednesday,” her sister Catherine said in a statement. “She was one of my favorite people and I will forever miss her. Rest in peace, Kim.”

Stan and Kimberly met at Castleton State College in 1984 after he became a coach ther. She studied as an undergrad at the institution.
They tied the knot in 1988 and Kimberly would later go on to get her Masters of Education in Counseling at Fordham University.
Van Gundy is currently employed as a basketball analyst for TNT, having coached the Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Detroit Pistons, and New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA.
