The Miami Heat secured another preseason win, edging out the San Antonio Spurs 120-117. With the victory, the Heat improved to a 2-1 record in the preseason. While their current performance might seem encouraging, not everyone is convinced about the team’s long-term prospects.
Stan Van Gundy, former president of the Detroit Pistons and a veteran NBA coach, recently expressed doubts about the Heat’s current roster. In an interview with Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Van Gundy questioned whether the Heat have the pieces in place to be serious contenders.
“I really don’t understand what’s going on there. They’re really a win-now team, which I respect, and they haven’t put a roster around there that has a chance. I think they got lulled into a false sense of security by the run to the Finals two years ago,” Gundy said.
“And it was a great run, but they didn’t have a great team, and they didn’t have a great year. That’s not a very good roster. To me, that’s a play-in roster again,” he added.
Miami Heat Star Butler Shrugs Off Contract Worries
Along with continuing their preseason success, the Miami Heat face an important decision regarding the future of their star player, Jimmy Butler. With speculation building around Butler’s Miami future, the Heat will have to carefully consider their next steps. When asked about his future, Butler was candid about his priorities after the Heat’s victory over the Spurs.
“If we’re being brutally honest, no matter what, nothing I do now is going to get me paid anymore money. I’m at a point right now that I got more than enough money. I’m just here to win,” Butler said, according to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald.
