Wednesday night was special for basketball fans as the young college talents entered the NBA to develop into bigger names of the future. One of them is Alex Sarr, who has gained recognition for his remarkable abilities.
Despite being projected to land with the Hawks, the Frenchman found his new home in Washington with the Wizards. Wizards drafted him as their second pick. On his big night, the 7-footer center revealed what his brother Thunder’s center Olivier Sarr shared with him about the league.
Following the huge announcement, Alex was interviewed by ESPN. The 19-year-old was asked whether Olivier gave him a piece of advice or told him anything about playing in the NBA. “He shared a lot. Everything I have learned is through him and he gave me all his knowledge,” stated Alex Sarr in an emotional tone. “It’s special to have someone like him in my corner,” while talking about his elder brother, Alex choked.
Alex tasted success early in his journey by being selected in the first round. However, he knows about the hardships his brother had to face. So, his emotions coming out while talking about Olivier is natural.
Alex Sarr’s Brother’s NBA Journey
Unlike Alex Sarr, his brother Olivier had to go through a tough road to finally enter the league. The 25-year-old declared his draft in 2021 but couldn’t find a spot in any franchise.
Alex’s brother appeared for the Memphis Grizzlies in the Summer League before getting his chance with the OKC Thunder in October of the same year. But in no time, he was sent to the franchise’s affiliate, OKC Blue. Impressed with his performance in the G-league, Olivier got a two-way deal from the Thunder in the following year.

Little did he know that he would be waived within two months in April. Olivier again played in the NBA Summer League, but this time with the Phoenix Suns. Following the offseason, he got another two-way deal with the Blazers in Oct 2022. After getting waved off in a month, Alex’s brother moved in a whole circle to finally land in the Oklahoma franchise in Jan. 2023.
Olivier engaged in a two-way contract with the franchise and got to suit up for the Thunder 15 times in the 2023-2024 season. He got 6.5 minutes of average time on the hardwood, during which he managed to put up 2.3 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. With Alex’s arrival, Olivier could get the boost he needed for years.
