The Atlanta Hawks have been fined $100,000 by the NBA for violating the league’s player participation policy by holding star guard Trae Young out of the team’s first game in the NBA Cup despite him being healthy enough to play.
It turns out that held him out of the game for a good reason.
Young missed Atlanta’s NBA Cup matchup against the Boston Celtics on November 12th, a game that actually still won. The team cited that, at the time, he had right Achilles tendinitis.
The Hawks went on to earn a 117-116 win over the Celtics at Boston’s TD Garden.
A league statement says the investigation found that Trae Young could have played under the policy’s medical standard as they consulted with an independent physician, per the statement.
Fans would become enraged over the entire situation after they figured out that Trae Young was likely out so he could celebrate the 1st birthday of his child.
