LeBron James, the standout player for the Los Angeles Lakers, is often praised by many players, fans, and analysts for his extraordinary abilities and remarkable dominance on the court. However, the 39-year-old, who had the lowest midrange field goal percentage in the NBA last season, was recently criticized by a former NBA player who compared him to a ten-time NBA All-Star.
During a recent appearance on Swish Cultures, Kwame Brown, who played 12 seasons in the NBA, criticized LeBron James for not evolving his game throughout his professional career. The former NBA player believes that James hasn’t developed his skills outside the three-point line.
“The old-school players wouldn’t have any trouble with LeBron because, at 39, he should have developed a mid-range and a post game, and he still hasn’t yet… His game really hasn’t evolved outside of a three and putting his head down and going to the basket. He doesn’t go like Paul Pierce, getting to a spot, pulling up. Those are the things you normally see out of a superstar player.” Brown said.
Brown’s statement sparked a debate among basketball fans, leading to criticism in the comment section of the Legion Hoops post on X (formerly Twitter). One fan remarked, “Wrong message delivered by the worst possible messenger.”
Meanwhile, another fan mentioned, “this is a troll or this n*gga don’t watch basketball? don’t ever wanna hear the biggest bust in the league speak on the goat again.”

An NBA enthusiast said, “And Kwame Brown’s game hasn’t evolved from high school to the NBA unlike James. That’s why he a bust.”
Another fan mentioned, “Do you get tired of lying?”
LeBron James’ Performances in the 2023-24 NBA Season
During the last season, James delivered several dominating performances for the Lakers, leading them to the NBA playoffs. However, they lost to the Denver Nuggets in the Round 1 playoff series. The 39-year-old, who recently shared his retirement plans, played in 71 games during the 2023–24 season, with an average of 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.3 rebounds.
James is prepared to start his 22nd NBA season, which will begin soon. It will be fascinating to see if he can improve his mid-range game and silence the criticism.
