Following their early playoff exit last season, the Los Angeles Lakers replaced head coach Darwin Ham with JJ Redick. Aside from that, the Purple and Gold opted for stability as they didn’t make big moves in the summer trade. However, Lakers point guard D’Angelo Russell’s cryptic tweet sparked his trade rumors.
In the 2023-24 NBA regular season, DLo averaged 18 points, 6.3 assists, and 3.1 rebounds on 45.6% shooting from field goal range. With the 2024-25 season approaching, the Lakers are rumored to be interested in roping in a new guard, considering Russell’s lack of consistency.
The 28-year-old point guard ignited his trade rumors with a cryptic tweet in which he posted an emoji showing a smiley and teary face. Fans flooded the comment section with reactions. While some believed the Lakers would finally make a move, others related the NBA star’s reaction to rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs’s arrest on Monday.

What Lies Ahead For The Los Angeles Lakers?
The Lakers will likely strengthen their squad before the midwinter trade deadline, if not during the offseason. Among other star players, D’Angelo Russell is highly likely to be traded away. Earlier, the 17-time NBA champions tried to acquire then-Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray, who now joined the New Orleans Pelicans. However, the Lakers are now rumored to be interested in Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland.
The Lakers have re-signed Max Christie to a four-year, $32 million deal and center Collin Castleton and Christian Koloko to two-way contracts. Apart from that, the Lakers didn’t make any signings with less than 40 days remaining in the 2024-25 regular-season.
