In his six seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, Luka Doncic has flourished into a star. But what would have happened if Mark Cuban and Co. hadn’t acquired him from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Trae Young? One might not be able to predict the consequences, however, artificial intelligence (AI) has an answer for it.
Clutch Points recently shared a post on X (FKA Twitter) showing how the Slovenian guard’s career would have curved in the Eastern side of the league. The post shows how Doncic got better over time with the Mavs and showcased his remarkable caliber. According to ChatGPT, with the Hawks, he would have strived for the ultimate goal, the championship, almost every season.
Doncic dropped phenomenal performances throughout the 2023-2024 season and got very close to the prestigious title. However, due to his team’s lackluster performance, they lost the Finals series to the Celtics. However, as per the post, the 25-year-old would have bagged the Larry O’Brien Trophy had he been playing for the Atlanta side. While in reality, the Hawks couldn’t qualify for the playoffs. They got eliminated in the Playoffs by the Chicago Bulls.
The Hawks drafted Doncic in 2018, while the Mavericks got hold of Young. The Western team traded the 3-time Star and a future first-round pick to get the Slovenian. The way Doncic pulled the team since his arrival, there is no scope for the franchise to regret their decision.
Since the guards started their NBA journey together, they have often been pitted against each other. After the constant comparisons, the Hawks guard spoke up about the matter.

Talking to the host, Young said, “When it comes to the comparison stuff, I know there’s been worse comparisons so like, to be honest, that don’t really affect me”. Then, he further described how they uniquely impacted their teams over the years. He clarified that his vision lies in leading the Hawks to the championship title even at his own expense.
Trae Young has mostly stayed out of the court due to his injuries and managed to play 54 games, averaging 25.7 points, 10.8 assists, and 2.8 rebounds. In contrast, Doncic averaged 33.9 points, 9.8 assists, and 9.2 rebounds, appearing in 70 games in the regular season.
