Over the last few weeks, the hottest discussion in the NBA has been the future of Kevin Durant. The 33-year-old would demand a trade from the Nets shortly after Kyrie Irving opted back in to play for next season.
At the top of his wish list have reportedly been the Phoenix Suns and the Miami Heat. Both teams were the first seeds of their respective conferences in the 2021-22 NBA season. Durant knows what it is like going to a top team already as he took his talents to the 73-9 Warriors and won two NBA titles as a result.
There seems to be one more destination that might suit him, but it would team him back up with an old friend. We’re talking about the possibility of the Los Angeles Lakers and the Nets indulging in a straight-up exchange between LeBron James and Kevin Durant.
Skip Bayless saw that trade suggestion from Bleacher Report and agreed with it.
“Just read a proposed trade on Bleacher Report that has been hiding in plain sight … LeBron for KD,” he said. “Too obvious to be obvious because IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE. LeBron/Kyrie reunite in the East. Lakers get KD for 4 years, return to power in ’23. Can’t wait to discuss at 930 E.”
“LeBron, if the goal is go win, why would you wanna be stuck with Russ in LA as opposed to reunite with Kyrie?” he said.

A trade that sounds outlandish might very well be the solution for both the Nets and Lakers as far as Bayless is concerned. James has 1-year of $44M left on his contract while Durant has 4-years and $196M left.
LeBron is coming off a season where he played in only 56 games due to injury and rest. But when he was available to play, he was the most valuable player for the Los Angeles Lakers. James averaged 30.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game but his individual brilliance wasn’t enough to get the Lakers to the playoffs as L.A. finished 11th in the Western Conference with a 33-49 record.
Last season, Durant averaged 29.9 points per game on over 51% shooting from the field.
