Rudy Gobert has been phenomenal for the Minnesota Timberwolves, protecting their rim throughout the regular season while bagging some points on his way to the playoffs. His fourth Defensive Player Of The Year title is proof of that.
When the franchise signed Gobert for a hefty amount, there was a lot of criticism surrounding it, but now, as per the current scenario, the Wolves center stands tall among the 15 highest-paid NBA players to qualify for the Conference Finals.
Where veterans like Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant failed to make it, the 7’1″ All-Star still hung in there. The other player in the top 15, Nikola Jokic also had a good run in the playoffs, but the Minnesota team made sure to eliminate him in the semis so that their big man, Gobert could stand alone on the list.
Gobert had some ups and downs in the seven-game series against the Denver Nuggets, but when the pivotal moment came in Game 7, he showed his experience and helped the franchise in the 98-90 win. With his final action, the 31-year-old made teammate Anthony Edwards confident about his victory.
Anthony Edwards Knew They’d Win After Rudy Gobert’s Unexpected Bucket
When the Nuggets had almost had the win in their hands, the Wolves made a comeback and tied the series, which rolled to the seventh game, of which Anthony Edwards was certain.
In Game 7, the way the Denver-based franchise dominated the first half, no one had faith that the inexperienced T’Wolves would bounce back in the second half with their All-Star guard donning the defense restricting Nuggets’ Jamal Murray and Rudy Gobert taking an outstanding shot. However, Edwards admitted that he knew what was coming after the shot.

“When Rudy hit the turnaround, i was like ‘ yeah, we probably got ‘em’… i know that’d kill you. That’d kill your whole everything,” said the 22-year-old in the post-game presser.
With 7:43 minutes remaining on the clock, Gobert hit a fadeaway jumper that Edwards referred to, over Jokic and finished with 13-9-1.
After the marvelous victory, the franchise will face the Mavericks for a new challenging series in the Western Conference Finals starting from Wednesday.
