Appearing as a guest on the FULL SEND PODCAST this week, NBA legend Shaq decided to share a story of how he began selling affordable shoes.
It started with a meeting with Reebok and a random woman who went off on him because kids could not afford such high priced shoes. That moment would change his life forever.
“My best story is…I had a Reebok deal, $40M for 5 and I’m leaving the arena one day and this lady and ripping me a new (asshole) “You motherfuckers charging these babies all this money for the shoes.
I had like $2,000 in my pocket and said ‘Maam, I don’t make the prices…Here ya go’ and she smacked the money out of my hand. “Why don’t you motherfuckers make a shoe that’s afordable?”
…and I thought about it…You know what, she’s right. So that day I cut ties with Reebok and started my own brand. I told them to keep to keep the money, this ain’t right.”
The best part of the situation is that Shaq teamed up with Walmart and sold more than $200 million pairs of affordable shoes.
