LeBron James added to his growing NBA legacy when he became the first player in NBA history to score at least 10 points in 1,000 consecutive regular-season games, and did so on his 36th birthday.
Michael Jordan previously held the record, with 866 consecutive games. Most still won’t acknowledge LeBron over Jordan, however.
NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal recently outlined LeBron’s path to the best player in history during an episode of the “All Things Covered” podcast with Patrick Peterson and Bryant McFadden.
“I know LeBron, and I know he thinks about what people think,” O’Neal said. “So right now he has four [NBA titles], once he gets five, let’s think about it – he already passed Kobe [Bryant] and Michael [Jordan] in points, now once he gets five championships he’ll be closer to the door. But as he gets five, he’s going to be creeping on Kareem [Abdul-Jabaar] too. So I think he’s looking to pass Kareem [for the scoring title], right, to get to 39,000 points and that will automatically put him at the best player. And then if he ties Michael, then people will likely lean a little bit more towards LeBron as the best player in the world.”
