The New Orleans Pelicans are facing yet another challenge in their efforts to build a cohesive team culture, as recent tensions involving their star forward Zion Williamson have come to light. Over the past three months, reports of internal discord have emerged. On Friday, the situation escalated when the team announced Williamson’s suspension for violating team policies.
According to the Pelicans, Williamson was late for the team’s flight to Philadelphia on Thursday, causing his teammates to wait after missing the flight. As a result, the organization took swift disciplinary action, suspending him for one game.

The suspension proves the Pelicans’ serious approach to enforcing internal rules. While the suspension is a setback, the Pelicans’ management seems determined to address any issues that could hinder team chemistry.
Williamson’s absence from the court has been a recurring theme this season. He recently returned to play after giving a hint on his return. He has been sidelined with a left hamstring strain since November 6. In the limited action he has seen this season, Williamson is averaging 22.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game across just seven appearances.
Pelicans Triumph Over 76ers Despite Zion Williamson’s Absence
Zion Williamson was unavailable for Friday’s matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers due to his suspension. However, the Pelicans secured a 123-115 victory despite facing the formidable 76ers duo of Paul George and Tyrese Maxey.
CJ McCollum delivered a stellar performance with 38 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists in 35 minutes. His offensive firepower was the key factor in securing the Pelicans’ victory.

With the win, the Pelicans’ season record now stands at 8-31. Zion Williamson is expected to rejoin the team on Saturday.
