NBA insider Shams Charania became public enemy number one this week for allegedly influencing NBA Draft odds while having a partnership with a sportsbook.
As we know, one of the ways the NBA draft can become intriguing for fans is through the ability to place wagers on players’ overall draft positions. This became a huge problem based on one tweet from Shams.
Charania, a known brand ambassador for FanDuel, reported that G League Ignite star Scott Henderson was “gaining serious momentum” to become the No. 2 pick for the Hornets just hours prior to the start of Thursday’s NBA draft. That was more than enough to move the needle and have people placing bets.
That rumor never came to pass, as the Charlotte Hornets instead selected former Alabama standout Brandon Miller with the second pick. The damage was done and a ton of people lost a lot of money.
FanDuel would soon release a statement on the matter and denied having any knowledge of when Charania reported it.
“FanDuel is not privy to any news that Shams breaks on his platforms,” said a FanDuel spokesman.

FanDuel Sportsbook listed Miller at -650 and Henderson at +400 to be the No. 2 pick, but as soon as Shams sent out his tweet, Scoot became the favorite at -700.
Charania has not commented on the issue, but this situation will not be forgotten by bettors as they will now not trust anything he says when it comes to placing bets.
There are presently no regulations to prevent future things like this from happening and that is a huge problem.
