Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Oklahoma City Thunder to book their 15th consecutive win this season. The star point guard went all in for his side and orchestrated 33 points in the 105-92 win over the Boston Celtics.
Gilgeous-Alexander’s offense was on point, and so was his defense and steals. He solely held Jayson Tatum with his block, which halted a potential scoring run for the Celtics. After the game, SGA expressed a confidently straightforward assessment of his standing in the NBA. During the post-game interview, reporters asked Gilgeous-Alexander about his status among the league’s elite players after he led his OKC to victory with an impressive double-double.
“Yeah, I’m pretty good at basketball,” Shai replied.

Well, if he is not right in his assessment, he’s not wrong either. As of now, Gilgeous-Alexander is making a strong case for the MVP award. He is currently ranked second in the MVP ladder behind Nikola Jokic. And much of that is evident in his statistics. The Toronto-born NBA All-Star is averaging an eye-catching 31.2 points, 6.1 assists, 5.4 rebounds, 2.0 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game, contributing significantly to the Thunder’s impressive 30-5 record.
It would still be worth watching if he keeps up this performance for a long time. He is undoubtedly ranked among the best in the league. And to get things going, he could afford anything but inconsistency.

During the same interview, Shai had a heartfelt response to Anthony Edwards’ claim that he’s in the running for MVP this season.
Edwards, who contributed 20 points in the game, called Gilgeous-Alexander “unguardable” and emphasized his impressive consistency. He suggested that the Thunder star truly deserves the MVP title. Gilgeous-Alexander thanked Edwards for the shoutout and shared how much it means to get recognition from fellow players.
