The Dallas Mavericks have advanced to the NBA Finals after defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals with a score of 124-103. Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving delivered a consistently dominant performance throughout the series. In Game 5, he scored 36 points, made 5 assists, and grabbed 4 rebounds in 40 minutes of play.
During a post-game press conference, Irving expressed his excitement about the team’s success and mentioned that he will be playing in the finals for the first time since 2017. He also mentioned that he had waited 7 years for this opportunity and that he needed to get ready for the finals.
“It has been seven long years, but it’s also felt like the right amount of time in order to reward myself for being in the locker room with my teammates and enjoying it, we are going to enjoy this, but we obviously know this is a pit stop in the journey and we got to get ready for that court turning gold, as I like to say,” Irving said.
Best of the Best team: Irving on Celtics
Irving mentioned that his shoes and jersey turned gold after the WCF series, fulfilling a childhood dream. He also praised the Boston Celtics, stating they are the best team to compete in the finals.
“The shoes turn gold and the jerseys turn gold. As a kid, that’s what you dream of: getting to The Finals and being able to play against the best of the best with the whole world watching.” Irving added.
The 32-year-old Mavericks player made his first appearance in the NBA Finals 2017, when his team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, lost in five games to the Golden State Warriors. Before joining Dallas, Irving played for three and a half seasons with the Brooklyn Nets and two seasons with the Boston Celtics. Finally, Irving can celebrate his success after reaching the NBA Finals for the fourth time in his career.
