The 1991 NBA Finals played a crucial role in basketball history. The Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers engaged in an intense series, but Game 5 was especially important as the Bulls were striving to win their first championship. Scottie Pippen played a key role in this game and helped lead his team to victory.
Pippen has revealed that he is working on a documentary about Game 5. He wants to share new stories and insights about that game, giving fans a better understanding of what happened.
During an interview with TMZ, Pippen announced that he is working on a series focusing on this important game ball from the match between the Bulls and the Lakers. He stated, “We’re looking to do a documentary on this basketball because we think that there’s a lot of stories to be told.“
The film will explore a significant moment in basketball history, focusing on the game ball from Game 5, in which the Bulls defeated the Lakers to secure their first NBA Championship. Pippen disclosed that he has kept possession of the ball for 33 years.
He grabbed it after the Bulls won Game 5 108-101, believing it might be the start of something special, and it sure was. Pippen believes this ball symbolizes the start of a great era for the Bulls and the end of the Lakers’ “Showtime” period.
“I think that ball really was a start of a dynasty,” Pippen said. “And almost, I want to say, the end of a great dynasty in the Los Angeles Lakers, who we’ve known for many years in the ’80s as ‘Showtime’ and pretty much they kind of were the show in basketball.“

Scottie Pippen’s Plan to Share Chicago Bulls’ Legacy Through Documentary
Pippen is teaming up with Hidden Empire Films and its founder, Deon Taylor, to create the upcoming documentary focusing on the 1990-1991 Chicago Bulls and the stories behind their championship run.
Pippen thinks the ball is “very recognizable to some degree” and wants to make it a “real-world asset.” “Because I know a lot of people know about the history of the Bulls, what we were able to do in the ’90s,” he explained, “I think this ball really sort of describes and tells a story about the start of a great run in basketball as a whole but more so for our Chicago Bulls fans and basketball fans around the world.”
Although they haven’t set the release date yet, fans can expect the documentary to come out in 2025. Pippen added, “I think it’s going to be more about the whole run of that season. I am working with a team, but my ideal is to see this ball really sort of tell a story of what it was like for basketball in the ’90s and what it was like for our journey to get to that first championship.“
The 1991 NBA Finals saw Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen lead the Chicago Bulls to their first championship, defeating the Los Angeles Lakers in five games. Moreover, this win ended the Lakers’ dominance and kicked off the Bulls’ 1990s dynasty. Pippen, in particular, contributed with impressive averages, including 20.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, 6.6 assists, 2.4 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game.
