The Los Angeles Lakers kicked off their 2024 NBA Cup campaign with a 120–115 victory over Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs. With this victory, the defending champions remained undefeated in the NBA Cup. LeBron James, now in his 22nd season, proved his enduring dominance, playing a pivotal role in securing the win for his team.
With this victory, the Lakers improved their record to 8-4, climbing to fifth place in the Western Conference standings. Meanwhile, the Spurs faced a setback as the loss dropped their record to 6-7, pushing them down to 11th in the West.
LeBron James And Anthony Davis Lead Lakers To Victory Over Spurs
LeBron James continues to defy age and expectations, proving once again why his name is always mentioned in the GOAT debate. The 39-year-old recorded his fourth consecutive triple-double, finishing the night with 15 points, 16 rebounds, and 12 assists against the Spurs. Remarkably, all four of LeBron’s triple-doubles this season have led to Lakers victories.
This historic streak marks the first time in LeBron’s illustrious career that he has recorded four straight triple-doubles, which he achieved by the third quarter of the game. Prior to the Spurs, LeBron delivered similar performances against the Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Raptors, and Memphis Grizzlies.
While LeBron’s all-around brilliance was key, Anthony Davis was the leading scorer for the Lakers, delivering 40 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 2 blocks in just 36 minutes. Austin Reaves also contributed significantly with 19 points, 6 assists, and 3 rebounds.
The Lakers’ depth was on full display as rookie Dalton Knecht added 14 points, D’Angelo Russell chipped in 13, and Max Christie rounded out the scoring with 11 points.
