The 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year, Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs, has a bright future ahead with much to accomplish in the league. The French center led the NBA in blocks in his rookie season and barely missed an All-Star selection. Recently, Wembanyama revealed the NBA stars and legends he would most like to dunk on.
Last season, the San Antonio Spurs had a similar season record of 22 wins as the 2022-23 but finished a place higher in the standings. However, Wembanyama announced his arrival in the league with a strong rookie season. In the 2023-24 season, the 7-foot-4 center averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 3.6 blocks per game, leading the Spurs in these categories.
In a recent interview with CBS Sports’ Ashley Nicole Moss, the Spurs center was asked to name five NBA players he would like to dunk on. Wembanyama picked Rudy Gobert and Kawhi Leonard because he respects them as top defenders. He said, “The best defenders would be the biggest challenge, so that would be Rudy Gobert. I think Kawhi [Leonard] would be.”
He added, “So I’d say Rudy, Kawhi, and a third one would be Jonathan Isaac. I think [Isaac’s] a really, really underrated defender.”

While Wembanyama would like to establish his name in the league, the Spurs will look to return to the NBA Playoffs after six years. Ahead of the 2024-25 season, San Antonio signed Chris Paul, who will be playing his 20th season, to guide the young roster of Jeremy Sochan, Devin Vassell, and Tre Jones. The Spurs will face the Dallas Mavericks in their opening clash this season on October 24.
