NBA’s legendary coach, Gregg Popovic, has now been missing games on 6 occasions. Initially, the San Antonio Spurs management termed Popovich’s condition as an ‘undisclosed health issue.’ However, as the Spurs faced off against the Washington Wizards this Wednesday, more details came to the forefront, which was alarming.
According to the updates, Popovich suffered a mild stroke on November 2 at the Spurs’ arena. Immediately, the legendary coach had to visit the hospital, where he received prompt medical attention. Thankfully, Popovich is due to make a full recovery and is already in the rehabilitation process. However, the Spurs’ management could not provide an approximate timeline for when Popovich will be able to return to assume his duties as the head coach.
In a recent X post by an account named ‘Chris Mannix,’ an NBA enthusiast shared Popovich’s official health update. “The San Antonio Spurs today announced that Head Coach Gregg Popovich has suffered a mild stroke. The episode occurred on Nov. 2 at the Frost Bank Center. Popovich, who has already started a rehabilitation program, is expected to make a full recovery. At this point, a timeline for his return to the sidelines has not been determined. During this time, the organization is grateful to the extended community for providing privacy and space to the Popovich family,” the news read.
There are no updates on any adverse reactions (if any) the Spurs’ head coach is facing from the stroke at the moment. Expressing his heartfelt concerns, Brian Wright, Spurs’ general manager, said, “It’s a difficult time for everyone… Coach Pop has been the leader of this organization for the last three decades.” Surely, the entire NBA realm will be praying for Popovich’s swift recovery. Meanwhile, Coach Pop was recently in the news after dropping a truth bomb about Donald Trump.
Gregg Popovich Calls Donald Trump ‘Damaged’
Gregg Popovich has always been quite a vocal person. As the election fever caught up with the Americans, it divided the country into two halves. Expressing his political opinions, Popovich recently lashed out at the US President Donald Trump. The Spurs’ head coach lashed out at Trump as he addressed him as ‘damaged’ and ‘pathetic.’

Expressing his frustration, Popovich mentioned, “He’s pathetic. He’s small…He’s a whiner… He’s a damaged man.” The 75-year-old then went on to state that Trump, during his Presidential tenure, failed to put a stop to hate speech and racism. However, with the election results being announced and Trump getting back at the helm, it remains to be seen whether he can sort out the issues raised by Popovich.
