The Sacramento Kings are fired up for the new season, especially after landing star player DeMar DeRozan. Die-hard Kings fans are already buzzing with playoff hopes, and DeRozan’s arrival adds more energy to the mix. His tenure with the Bulls ended on July 6, when the Kings announced a sign-and-trade agreement with Chicago.
The small forward started a new chapter with the Kings, and team owner Vivek Ranadive welcomed him in a unique way. Ranadive’s video greeting the 34-year-old referenced Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” music video, which has become a hot topic right now.
To make DeRozan smile with delight, King’s owner said, “So I know DeMar, everybody wants you. Every team, every city, all the players. But I got one thing to tell you. They’re nothing like us!”
This phrase cleverly reflected a lyric from Lamar’s song “Not Like Us,” in which he raps, “Everybody want to rap, everybody got a mic / But ain’t too many like us, this the legacy we write.“
With a strong lineup including DeRozan and a driven owner, the Kings are expecting this season to be unique – one in which they may at last surpass all the rivals.
DeMar DeRozan’s Transfer to Kings Shakes Up the NBA World
Even though LeBron James had asked DeMar DeRozan to join the Lakers, the latter surprised the NBA free agency market this week by accepting the Sacramento Kings’ offer. Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported that the Lakers did not offer DeRozan a deal or a sign-and-trade with the Bulls before he joined the Kings.

The signing and trade that netted DeRozan was for three years and 74 million dollars. According to the franchises’ Monday announcements, Chris Duarte is going to the Chicago Bulls, and Harrison Barnes is going to the San Antonio Spurs.
“It was really down to the Kings and Heat as far as DeMar DeRozan’s new home … I’m told the Lakers never went beyond expressing simple interest in DeRozan”, Charania said.
