According to the recent reports by NBA analyst Marc Stein, Extension talks between the Sacramento Kings and Mike Brown have “broken down,” and it seems that the Kings’ postseason disappointments over the last two playoffs are the reason behind it.
“Extension talks for Sacramento’s Mike Brown, however, have broken down as Brown enters the final guaranteed season of his original four-year deal. The sides hold what has been described as a mutual option for 2025-26…Yet it appears that the combination of Brown’s desire for a significant salary bump and the Kings’ postseason disappointments of the past two springs has given his bosses pause,” Stein wrote.
Brown has a 94-70 record, making him the most successful coach in Sacramento history, excluding Rick Adelman. After agreeing to postpone contract negotiations, Brown may begin the next season as a weaker coach. His deal is for four years, but he and the team must agree to pick up the last season as a mutual option.
