Fans of the Sacramento Kings were tense as talks between Mike Brown and the franchise had briefly stalled. However, both sides were determined to reach an agreement. Their perseverance paid off when ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the two sides had agreed to a new deal on Friday night, according to Brown’s agent, Warren LeGarie.
Under the new contract, Brown will receive a $4 million raise, bringing his salary to $8.5 million for next season. He will continue to earn $8.5 million annually for the two additional seasons added to his previous deal. This agreement secures his position with the Kings through the 2026–2027 season.
Earlier reports indicated that the Kings had offered Brown $7 million per year with incentives. However, Brown was reportedly seeking $10 million per year. The final agreement falls between these figures and seemingly, it’s a compromise that benefits both parties.
Kings Coach Mike Brown Sets Franchise on Path to Success
Mike Brown has played a pivotal role in the turnaround of the Sacramento Kings since taking charge in 2006. He led the Kings to a 46-36 record, securing a spot in the play-in tournament as the No. 9 seed for the 2023–24 season.
The team’s hopes for a trophy seemed promising after they defeated the Golden State Warriors in the play-in tournament. However, their journey ended when the New Orleans Pelicans eliminated them.
Brown guided the Kings to the Western Conference playoffs for the first time in 16 years in the 2022–23 season. This remarkable achievement earned him his second career Coach of the Year award. His tenure with the Kings boasts a 94-70 (.573) record, bringing his career mark to 441-286.
