Russell Westbrook, after being waived by the Utah Jazz following a trade from the Los Angeles Clippers, has found a new home with the Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets seized the opportunity to sign the future Hall of Famer to a multi-year deal.
Upon joining the Nuggets, Westbrook quickly made his presence known. He checked into the Nuggets facility and shared a video message with his new fanbase.
“Nuggets nation. What’s the deal? Happy to be here. Excited. It’s gonna be fun. I can’t wait to see you guys out there. Let’s do it,” he said.
The Denver Nuggets, who clinched the NBA title in the 2022-23 season, struggled with their second unit last season. Westbrook, coming off the bench, is expected to provide the much-needed spark for the side. Although he will turn 36 in November and is no longer the dominant playmaker he once was, Westbrook still has the potential to make a significant impact.
In his last stint with the Clippers, Westbrook averaged 11.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game across 68 games. His stats show he can be a capable contributor, especially in a bench role where his energy and experience can be invaluable.
