The Chicago Bulls have made a big move by grabbing Josh Giddey from the OKC Thunder. The new trade could mean that the franchise has finally decided to move on from their star Lonzo Ball. And as per floating reports, his time could be numbered in the Bulls’ colors.
According to Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic, “Giddey’s acquisition also further clouds the Bulls’ plans for recovering point guard Lonzo Ball, who hasn’t played since January 2022 but is expected to make a comeback next season.” The reporter further stated “It’s impossible to not view Giddey as insurance in case Ball doesn’t return. By bringing in Giddey, the Bulls also might have signaled they’re ready to move on from Ball. A trade or buyout could be likely.”
After their huge success in the 90s, the Bulls once again want to climb back to the top. However, it seemed impossible with their current roster. The addition of the 21-year-old guard could bring about a change and boost them to fight back in the Western Bay.
The franchise had similar expectations when they signed up Lonzo Ball for a 4-year contract worth $80 million, but he couldn’t last for an entire season due to his knee injury.
Injuries Stopping Chicago Bulls Star From Reaching His Potential
The Bulls had high hopes for Lonzo Ball’s trade from the Pelicans. He also didn’t disappoint them and delivered outstanding shooting skills. But disaster struck in Jan. 2022 when the point guard had to be sidelined because of his right knee injury.
Ball had to finish with averages of 13 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists while maintaining his shooting a little above 42%. He soon had to go through back-to-back surgeries thrice on the same leg, which worsened his condition.

Talking about his recovery on his podcast last month, Ball said, “It’s improving, so that’s all I can ask for. Still not where I want it to be. Out of 100 (percent), I’d say I’m about 70 (percent). Good enough to play, but it could still get better.”
After the two-year gap, the 26-year-old is expected to return to the hardwood in the upcoming season. The Bulls can trade him only if he gets fully fit and there could be franchises who could add him to their roster.
