Klay Thompson Previously Expressed His Desire to Play for the Bahamas
Thompson, who previously won a gold medal representing Team USA in the Olympics, has expressed his desire to represent the Bahamas in October 2023, which is where his father was born. However, in order to play for Team Bahamas in the Olympic qualifiers and beyond, he would need an official release from USA Basketball and FIBA sanction, which is unlikely to happen. This decision seems to be a way for Thompson to take a break from the constant attention he’s been receiving about his upcoming free agency and contract situation before making a significant decision this summer. Before deciding whether to continue playing in the NBA, he will be attending Team Bahamas’ training camp in Houston.
After finishing his junior season, Thompson entered the 2011 NBA draft and was selected 11th overall by the Golden State Warriors. He has been with the Warriors since 2011. However, the 34-year-old player will become a free agent this summer. Following the Warriors’ disappointing elimination from the Play-In tournament, there were questions about Thompson’s future with the team. There were speculations circulating among the fans about Thompson’s next team for the next season. Thompson recently hinted at his future through his social media account activity. According to StatMuse, Thompson averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 77 games this NBA season.
