After a blowout win in game 1 against the Cleveland Cavaliers, many assumed another straightforward series for the Boston Celtics. But Donovan Mitchell and Co. had other ideas. The Cleveland side restored parity to the series, which “ruined” Celtics superfan Nick Kyrgios’ day.
The former tennis star took to X (formerly Twitter) after the Celtics’ loss on Thursday night and wrote, “Celts have ruined my day. This team is a roller coaster. Just when you think they have it figured out, they throw a performance like this in,” followed by a broken heart emoji.
Interestingly, Knicks fan and Hollywood star Ben Stiller also commented on it and wrote, “Knicks are the next ride,” indicating his hopes of getting the Knicks vs Celtics Eastern Conference Finals.
The Cavs had Donovan Mitchell to thank for keeping his excellent postseason form going by recording 29 points on the night. The visiting side had significant contributions from everyone in the starting lineup, and the 118-94 win raised many questions about the Cs’ defensive zeal. Jaylen Brown was one of the critics who looked back at the game with utmost disdain for their defensive work.
Jaylen Brown Reflects on Celtics Loss
After the game, Jaylen Brown provided a scathing report card of the Celtics performance. During the post-game press conference, the Celtics guard said, “It was just a bad game. Obviously, we didn’t shoot the ball very well tonight, but defensively, it was an unacceptable performance.”

“I think that’s where we look at that, and I’m the most upset. Defensively, we gave up 118 points, and then on top of that we lost the rebound battle, so we didn’t help ourselves tonight,” Brown further commented. He also highlighted the shooting deficiencies of his team and how detrimental it was to allow shots from the opponent after missing some of their own.
The 27-year-old chipped in with 19 points from 7-17 shooting, which was the universal theme for the Celtics on the night. The two teams will face off on Saturday for game 3, and the Boston side will look for a better outing to avoid upsetting their superfans.
